The Hague (Dutch: Den Haag) is the capital of South Holland, and the third largest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It covers an area of some 100 square kilometers and has a population of 472,000 (as of 1 January 2005). Though it is not the national capital, The Hague is the seat of the central government, with the King of the Netherlands living and working here. Government bodies and foreign embassies are also based here. It is also home to the Supreme Judicial Court and many other organizations, such as the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG). The stork emblem is the emblem of The Hague. On 12 September 2009, a Letter of Intent for Friendly & Cooperative City Relations was formally signed between The Hague and Changsha.
