Yiwu

Yiwu in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province was called “Wushang” in history. Jinhua-Yiwu (Central Zhejiang) as well as Hangzhou (Northern Zhejiang), Ningbo (Eastern Zhejiang), and Wenzhou (Southern Zhejiang) are central cities of the four major regions of Zhejiang. Yiwu is located in the middle of Zhejiang Province and the east of Jin-Qu (Jinhua-Quzhou) Basin, and surrounded by mountains in the east, south and north. Yiwu covers an area of 1,105.46 km², and is 58.15 km long from north to south and 44.41 km wide from east to east. Up to 2018, the city had an urban population of 818,362, and reached 124.81 billion yuan in its GDP. Yiwu was home to historical figures, like Luo Binwang, who is considered one of the Four Paragons of the Early Tang Dynasty, Zong Ze -- a well-known general in the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhu Danxi, who is known as one of the four noted medical scientists in the Jin-Yuan period, the modern educator Chen Wangdao, the literary theorist Feng Xuefeng, and the historian Wu Han. Being the first and only county-level city to be determined as a national comprehensive reform pilot, Yiwu has received honorary titles including China's National Health City, the National Model City for Environmental Protection, the Excellent Tourism City in China, the National Garden City, the National Forest City, and the Zhejiang Civilization Model City. The Yiwu International Trade Market was accorded China's first AAAA-level area for shopping tourism by the National Tourism Administration. Yiwu is one of the top six counties (cities) and ranks first in terms of the level of per capita income and the density of luxury cars in Mainland China. The city, as one of the richest regions domestically, was at number one among the 10 wealthiest county-level cities in China according to Forbes in 2013. As the largest distribution center worldwide for small commodities, Yiwu has been designated as the world’s largest market by the UN, the World Bank and other international authorities. In addition, Yiwu has been included in the first comprehensive pilot areas of national new-type urbanization. It was rated as one of the Top 100 Counties in Business Environment in 2019 and ranked sixth in China in comprehensive competitiveness of economy in the same year.
