Siping

Siping, a prefecture-level city of Jilin Province, is located in the middle of Songliao Plain and at the place where Jilin Province, Liaoning Province and Inner Mongolia meet. Siping is the necessary gateway of Jilin, Heilongjiang and the east of Inner Mongolia to the Yangtze River Delta and to Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, as well as an important transportation hub and a key node of logistics in Northeast China. The city has a population of 3.204 million on an area of 14,323km², with 625,000 people residing in the urban area amounting to 1,100 km². Siping administers Tiedong District, Tiexi District, Gongzhuling, Shuangliao, Lishu County and Yitong County. Siping has a long history, By Erlong Lake 50 kilometers away from the downtown is the site of ancient city of Yan, which is the earliest evidence of Han people’s development of Northeast China; its cultural relics include Hanzhou of the Liao Dynasty, Xinzhou of the Jin Dynasty and the Yehe tribe of the Ming Dynasty, and there are also the cultural site Daqingshan Village, ruins of the Yehe Nala Ancient City, ruins of Zhaosu city of the Liao and Jin Dynasties as well as many other historic sites; and the Yehe Manchu Town is considered as the birthplace of Empress Xiaocigao and the ancestral home of Empresses Dowager Cixi and Longyu in Qing Dynasty. In 2017, Siping achieved the regional GDP of 93.983 billion Yuan. Of which, 19.5 billion Yuan came from the primary industry, 30.33 billion Yuan from the secondary industry and 44.16 billion Yuan from the tertiary industry. Its per capita GDP reached 29,187 Yuan. On 5 July 2019, Siping was included in the List of Cities with a Black and Odorous Water Elimination Rate of Less Than 80%. On 23 October 2019, it was identified as one of the Third Model Cities in Black and Odorous Water Treatment.
