Medan is the largest city on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia and the capital of North Sumatra, lying on the banks of the Deli River in northeastern part of Sumatra. Residents of Medan are Batak, Javanese, Malayan and Chinese (more than 19%). Most of the inhabitants are engaged in business and trade. Medan has 21 districts and 151 sub-districts, with a population of about 2.11 million.
