Jinan

Jinan, alternatively called as the Spring City, is the capital of Shandong Province, and a central city of the south wing of the Bohai Economic Rim approved by the State Council. By 2018, the City covered a total area of 10,244 km² with the built-up area totaling 561 km² and had a permanent population of 7.4604 million with the urban populace of 5.3789 million or 72.1%. Jinan is situated in the eastern edge of the North China Plain, the central and western Shandong Province, and East China, and is where the army headquarters of the Northern Theater Command is located. As the core city of the city cluster in the Shandong Peninsula, the city adjoins the Capital Economic Circle in the north, the Yangtze River Delta in the south and the Shandong Peninsula in the east. Therefore, it is a key junction of the Bohai Economic Rim (BER) and the Beijing-Shanghai economic belt and one of the central cities of the BER and of the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Jinan boasts many artesian springs including the famous 72 ones. It has been reputed for “The lake is surrounded by lotus flowers and willows hang on three sides; half of the city's mountains are reflected in the lake.” The city is also well-known for the eight famous scenes. Therefore, it has become a tourism city featuring the integration of “mountains, springs, lakes, rivers and urban views”. Jinan is a famous Chinese historical and cultural city, one of the first Excellent Tourism Cityies in China and one of the cradles of the prehistoric culture – Longshan Culture. Jinan was the host city of several international and national events including the Asian Cup, the National Games, the China International Garden & Flower Expo, and China Art Festival. Jinan held the 22nd International Congress of Historical Sciences in 2015 and the China Green Companies Summit in April 2016. It was included by the State Council in the list of third comprehensive pilot areas of national new-type urbanization in December 2016; ranked 19th in the list of China's Top 100 Cities and held the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting in 2017. In January 2018, the General Plan for the Construction of the New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion Pilot Area of Shandong was approved by the State Council, to support Jinan in becoming a pioneer in such conversion. In January 2019, Jinan was included in the list of Asia's Top 50 Cities and became a beta tier city in the world. In 2019, the regional GDP of Jinan reached 944.34 billion yuan.
