Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is located in the south of the Himalayas, and adjoins China in its north, with the rest three sides bordering India. The Himalayas serves as its natural border with China. Nepal embraces eight of the world’s ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest. It covers an area of 147,181 km² with a total estimated population of 28.98 million in 2016. With the peak temperature of - 41℃ in the north winter and 45℃ in the south summer, climatic conditions vary in Nepal featuring northern mountains, the central temperate zone and the southern subtropical zone. Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-caste and multi-lingual country. In Nepal, Nepali is the official language. Residents are Hindus (86.2%), Buddhists (7.8%), Muslims (3.8%) and believers of other religions (2.2%).
