Daegu

Daegu (Korean: 대구) is the fourth largest city in South Korea, behind Seoul, Busan, and Incheon. It is situated in Southeast of the country, with an area of 883.54 km² and a population of about 2,489,802 in 2018. Surrounded by mountains, the city is famous as the “furnace” of South Korea and dominated by the fiber industry. Daegu was upgraded to a municipality directly under the central government on 1 July 1981, before being renamed Daegu Metropolitan City in 1995. In addition, Daegu was a host city of the 2002 World Cup and of the 2011 World Championships in Athletics.
